Hello! My name is Mariella and I'm from South Africa, now living in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong.
I'm bilingual in English and Afrikaans, but I can speak and understand basic French, Italian, Dutch, and Flemish. I studied Ba. Humanities with majors in Sociology, Psychology, and French. I started by tutoring first-year French while I was a student and enjoyed it. After university, I privately tutored English to a family in France and then a family in Italy. I am TELF certified. I love teaching and tutoring English to young children. My approach is teaching through play. Just by playing and interacting with a child and creating an English environment, I find, they want to learn more. I try to act less like a teacher and more like an older sister (who they can only speak English too). I also like to help adults to build confidence in their English conversational skills. Being someone who understands how difficult learning a new language can be, I try to rather make a learning session social and interactive. Ultimately, a new language is a new social skill.
