VERY HELPFUL. I was looking for an urgent tutor for my homework and exam prep when I saw his profile. We had an immediate arrangement despite a short notice from me. Thanks to him I was able to get full marks on my tasks and exams. I would be glad to have him again! Mr. Vince is my son's tutor for Chemistry and Maths of the IB curriculum. We like his teaching style because he patiently explains the concepts and problem solving steps until you get it, and he made sure that you can do it independently. Lessons and problem solutions are presented in powerpoint in a way that anyone could follow it. He also took time to provide his own version of mock exams in order to monitor the development of my son. It is worthwhile experience because my son was able to improve his scores from 3-4 range to 6-7 range., hoping that my son could translate it to the final score this May. Further, since he is a researcher by profession he was able to help my son in his research tasks (IAs) from topic conception to writing. I could tell that he is a really good researcher as he got some published papers in high profile scientific journals.

He's very knowledgeable and skilled in chemistry and maths. I like the way he teach because he can explain the details very well, even the most complicated problems. I started with no understanding and I ended up feeling an expert on the subject because he taught me well. He's understanding and considerate so our schedule is flexible. The best part is, you can always consult him via messaging apps to get his opinion on the subject beyond the tutorial session, FOR FREE. It's definitely worth it!

Questions for You

Q: What areas of Chemistry do you specialize in, and what level of Chemistry do you usually teach?

My specialization during my PhD revolves around physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. However I can teach all areas of chemistry inorganic chemistry, as I had rigorous training during my Bachelor's and Master's degrees which solidified my academic foundation.

Q: What types of resources or technology do you use to support your Chemistry lessons?

I use past papers for the appropriate curriculum to let my students experience the exam-style questions while mastering the subject matter. I also use interactive simulations/ illustrations to make abstract concepts more tangible. Digital whiteboards, such as in Zoom, facilitate real-time collaboration, visualization of complex ideas, problem-solving more efficiently. Furthermore, I leverage e-books and online journals through Google Scholar for in-depth information and up-to-date research.

Q: How do you approach teaching Chemistry concepts to students who may struggle with Chemistry?

First, I assess their current understanding and identify specific areas where they face difficulties. I then break down complex concepts into simpler, more manageable parts, using analogies and real-life examples to make the material more relatable. I also encourage active participation through quizzes and interactive activities, which can make learning more engaging and less intimidating. Regular feedback and positive reinforcement are crucial to building their confidence. Moreover, I create an open environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their concerns even beyond tutoring hours.

Q: Do you have experience with laboratory experiments, and how do you incorporate these into your Chemistry lessons?

I worked in chemical industries for over 4 years before pursuing my PhD for another 4 years, so those past years comprised laboratory experiments that made me well-versed in laboratory practices. I used those experiences to illustrate real-life applications of chemistry and its everyday use such as in pharmaceuticals, food chemistry, and environmental science. This helps students see the practical importance of what they are learning.

Q: What is your approach to teaching organic chemistry, and how do you make the subject engaging and accessible for students?

I start by building a strong foundation in basic concepts such as bonding, hybridization, and functional groups. This ensures that students have a solid understanding of the fundamentals before moving on to more complex topics. I use molecular models and 3D visualization tools to help students grasp the spatial aspects of organic molecules. Interactive simulations and virtual labs allow students to explore reactions and mechanisms in a hands-on manner, making abstract concepts more concrete.

Q: How do you help students prepare for chemistry competitions, college applications, or other academic opportunities in chemistry?

To help students prepare for chemistry competitions, college applications, or other academic opportunities, I adopt a comprehensive and personalized approach. I begin by assessing their current knowledge and setting clear goals. I design focused study plans that cover advanced topics and problem-solving techniques, using practice problems and mock tests to build confidence. I provide access to advanced resources to guide students in developing critical skills such as scientific writing and analytical reasoning and offer support in crafting compelling personal statements and resumes. Throughout the process, I provide continuous feedback and adjust the study plan as needed to ensure steady progress and success.
