Hi! I'm Leah, a recent high school graduate on Hong Kong Island. I'm open to tutoring English, Mathematics, or Sciences for students between the ages of 4-15.

I am a native Canadian with over 10 years of teaching and tutoring experience in Hong Kong, from young children all the way up to adults and business professionals, in all areas of English language and grammar (including phonics, writing, business English and more). I also teach English culture, to add an extra dimension for a more well-rounded education. My passion and motivation are second to none and it is my aim to identify and rectify any and all problems you have in any area of the language. My students tend to keep me for years as they are that pleased with my service, and I'm sure you will be, too. English language is what I mainly teach however I can teach some other subjects in English such as history, geography, science and more, depending on the level. As a fluent English speaker who has studied in the States and received awards for my writing and speaking engagements, I am excited to teach you or your child how to improve oral, reading, and writing skills. I can help with the basics, such as improving vocabulary, sentence creation, and reading comprehension, as well as advanced writing skills like high-level grammar and essay composition. Additional facts: I am based in Stanley. I achieved a perfect score of 36 on the ACT for reading, writing, and composite scores. I have experience in tutoring ESL students, particularly for citizenship tests, and students from Grades 2-5. Additionally, I can communicate in French, Spanish, and Mandarin if needed.

My focus is on conversation, reading, and literature discussions. Prior to my current position, I served as a Primary Homeroom and P.E. Teacher at Yew Wah International Education School in Shanghai, PRC. Here, I fostered English language learning and character development. In the Private Education Sector in Hong Kong, I was an English Language Instructor, tailoring lessons for school-aged students. During my tenure at Tutor Time International Kindergarten/Nursery in Hong Kong, I developed language, social, and cognitive skills for young learners. In Beijing, at 8 Friends Training Center, I contributed as an Instructor and Curriculum Developer, focusing on primary and middle school students. At Carl Duisberg Training Center in Beijing, my role as an Instructor and Program Developer extended to designing tailored business and general English programs for adults and young learners. Expanding my impact to Ecuador, I served as an Instructor and Program Developer at Lenguatec, teaching general and industry-specific English. In Quito, Ecuador, at the Wall Street Institute, I implemented ESL material for students at various levels. Throughout my career, I have prioritised creating dynamic learning environments, fostering open communication, and tailoring instruction to meet individual student needs. My commitment is to elevate English fluency, turning students into confident communicators and critical thinkers.

I have taught in tutorial centers and now international schools in Hong Kong for nearly 10 years. I am a fully registered HK EDB teacher. I enjoy teaching all ages and believe in creating strong working relationships with my students by encouraging accountability, reflection, and self-directed learning. I can workshop and train a child to overcome any challenge - be it written or oral. In addition, I served in the US Peace Corps and hold a Master's degree in Environmental Science. I am a current student at the University of Bath studying BA Education with Psychology. I have many strong personal attributes and would consider myself a forward thinker with the ability to understand and empathize with others. My main strength comes from the ability to communicate, allowing people to express their feelings and ideas with the intention of bettering themselves and their surroundings. I have always been kind and caring towards those around me, as I have always felt the need to take into consideration and validate people’s feelings and emotions regardless of any situation.
